OnlyFans Scraps Plans To Porn Ban and Will Keep Allowing Sexually Explicit Content.

OnlyFans, a user-generated adult material site, has stated that it is abandoning plans to prohibit “sexually explicit” content after reaching an agreement with its payment processors.

OnlyFans announced last week that it will begin banning pornographic content on October 1st, much to the displeasure of its users and producers, who claimed that doing so risked sending such work underground.

According to a tweet from the firm, such plans have been canceled. “Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak up. We’ve gotten the guarantees we need to support our diverse creative community, therefore the policy change scheduled for October 1 has been postponed. OnlyFans is all about inclusivity, and we’ll keep providing a place for all creators.”

Initially, enraged fans blamed OnlyFans for the intended restriction on sexually explicit content. The firm, which is controlled entirely by pornographer Leo Radvinsky, has long stated a desire to move away from sexual content and toward more general-interest programming. Just two days before the planned ban, the firm announced the launch of OFTV, a new commercial venture that would bring its platform to smart TVs for the first time. Explicit content was barred from that service due to app store restrictions, which some saw as a sign of bigger things to come.

OnlyFans’ chief executive and co-founder Tim Stokely, on the other hand, blamed the company’s financial supporters for the porn ban on Tuesday. In an interview with the Financial Times, Stokely said, “The shift in policy, we had no option – the simple answer is banks.”

“Every month, we pay over one million creators over $300 million, and ensuring that these monies reach artists necessitates the use of the financial sector.”

BNY Mellon, according to Stokely, identified and denied payments, while Metro Bank, headquartered in the United Kingdom, terminated the company’s accounts in 2019. When contacted about Stokely’s accusations on Tuesday, BNY Mellon and Metro Bank both declined to comment.

OnlyFans is also impacted by new payment processor restrictions, such as those enacted by Mastercard, aimed at combating abuses such as the non-consensual transmission of pornographic images and child sexual abuse material. Mastercard said in April that adult material providers must offer “documented age and identity verification for all persons portrayed and those submitting the content,” as well as pre-publication approval by platform owners.

“You might wonder why now?” stated Mastercard at the time.

“In the last several years, it has been easier than ever to submit information to the internet. All that is required is a smartphone and access to the internet.”

Following a rise in usage during the course of the epidemic, the privately held OnlyFans reached a worth of more than $1 billion (£730 million) in the summer. It was popular among amateur creators because of the inexpensive membership prices, which allowed them to keep roughly 80% of their revenues. When the planned shift was disclosed, numerous people were concerned that their livelihoods would be jeopardized if they lost their primary source of income.

“This change will force workers currently working remotely online into riskier street-based sex work, and it will starve the children of sex workers who could otherwise afford to feed them,” Mary Moody, an online sex worker and co-chair of the Adult Industry Laborers and Artists Association, told the Guardian last week.
