It’s not uncommon for us to think of a hero as someone who wears a cape the moment we hear the word. However, not all heroes wear capes in real life. There are plenty of good souls out there who are willing to risk their own lives to help others. They could be either humans or animals.

Six-year-old Australian Koolie pup ‘Bear’ is the subject of this narrative. Bear had done an excellent job of saving more than 100 koalas throughout the fire. He was able to track down and rescue injured Koalas all around Queensland and New South Wales because of his enhanced sense of smell. In recognition of the bravery of this heroic dog, Bear was recently honored by the International Fund for Animal Welfare.

The Animal Action Awards 2021 presented Bear with the award for this Outstanding Service. He had received the honor virtually, in the House of Lords in London, where the event had taken place. They had been able to rescue a large number of lives because of Bear’s efforts. During bushfires, as well as on other days, he assists them in spotting Koalas by smelling their fur.

In addition to serving on the Detection Dogs for Conservation team, Bear also gets his training at the University of the Sunshine Coast. As a result of his actions, he was expelled from his prior home and family. However, he is now using the same approaches and ideas to assist in the saving of lives.
