Vitiligo is a disorder that causes patches of the skin to become whiter than their surrounding tissue in different parts of the body. There are a variety of therapies available to combat the illness. Even more difficult is overcoming the prejudice that some individuals have against people who have the disease.
This is why Viraltrendzs chose Ash Soto’s story to share today. She is a young woman who came up with the concept of using her body as a canvas to create a work of art. She does this in the hopes that it may encourage and boost the spirits of other persons who are battling vitiligo.
The 12-year-old Ash Soto was diagnosed with vitiligo.
Soto was identified as having vitiligo when she was barely 12 years old. Once, a little girl had asked her if she’d used bleach in the shower. That’s when she started to feel ashamed about her vitiligo. She’s currently a young woman of 21 years. She has now moved over any feelings of embarrassment or guilt about the color of her skin and takes pleasure in it.
White spots and a broad loss of pigment are symptoms of this very unusual skin condition.
Late in her adolescence, Soto finally resolved that the color of her skin would no longer stand in the way of her goals. To test her boundaries, she began engaging in activities such as daily public appearances without wearing a long-sleeved shirt. After overcoming numerous obstacles, she was able to convert her body into an artistic creation.
Soto’s adolescent years were when vitiligo was most common and when the bullying began.
Soto says that it helps to show off the different shades of her skin. She hadn’t seen the pattern on the surface of her skin for a while until it was drawn with a black pen. She has painted her body to resemble various iconic paintings, including “Starry Night” by Vincent Van Gogh. This condition was formerly regarded as a defect.
