He’s been working in this company for four decades. When you’ve been working in a company for such a long period you become a well-recognized person within the firm. You become an expert in the job and the task assigned to you. People respect you and you are satisfied with your salaries as well.
Isn’t it obvious for him to feel so down due to rejection of his vacation?

A Reddit user Rusticwhiskey shared this story in the MaliciousCompliance subreddit. More than 61k upvotes were there on the post. The title was “Get rid of my vacation? Have fun replacing me.”
The narrator opens his narrative by stating that he worked for a firm that was liberal with vacation time in compared to others. People who had worked there for a long period, in particular, were honored and given a total of 10 weeks off.
After the former owners sold the company, the new owners changed everything.
Jimmy is someone who worked for a very long period in the firm. He was a very loyal and respectful employee in the firm. Jimmy worked for almost 43 years and he usually gets a 10-week vacation.
The former owner said the workers there won’t be big differences with the new owners but everything changed.
The new owners reduced maximum vacation to 4 weeks.
Many people were fired which includes Jimmy’s backup as well.
Jimmy was furious, and instead of showing up to teach his new backup, he took a ten-week vacation.
New owners sets a new vacation policy that the maximum vacation is 4 weeks. Everyone would now be given a maximum of four weeks, and anyone who had more than that would have to utilize it before the end of the year.
Many were fired that includes Jimmy’s backup as well. Jimmy and his friend were the only people who knew to operate a specific part, but now Jimmy is all alone. A new trainee was employed to the task that Jimmy was supposed to train. But Jimmy took off his 10 weeks vacation.
As soon as his vacation ended then called him to say he’s done.
During his vacation he started finding a new job while enjoying himself in the beach. Finally he was soon employed in a new job.
Jimmy was so much fed up of his ex job and never thought of coming back. He really didn’t care how the company manages to operate without him.
The company lost a large amount of money by reducing the vacation time.
The company called the former owner of the company to say how things are going. They also asked the former owner to train new employees how to handle production that only the fired employee and Jimmy could create.
Previous owner was so much disappointed about the current situation of the company. He gave them two options that he would charge a large amount of money for training or the second option is to close down the firm. Finally they had to pay.
