An ancient Egyptian tomb was uncovered in a remarkable find that held an amazing 50 mummies, as well as the remains of 12 children.
On February 2, 2019, the remarkable find uncovered by an archeological team made headlines all around the globe. Nearly 2,000 years had passed since the dead had been laid to rest.
Egyptian archaeologists discovered the tomb at Tuna El-Galeb, which is 211 kilometers south of the Egyptian capital of Cairo. This finding refused previously accepted ideas that only adults were exposed to the whole mummification process.
Professionals were unable to identify the skeletal remains.
The reason for this was that when the tomb was uncovered, no apparent hieroglyphics containing their names had been discovered.
Nevertheless, the impressiveness of the massive 50-person tomb prompted researchers to believe that individuals buried there belonged to a wealthy social class. They may have been alive during Egypt’s Ptolemaic period, which began in 305 BC, based on their assumptions.
It has been reported that no names inscribed in hieroglyphics have been discovered, according to Mostafa Waziri, secretary-general of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities.
Upon discovery, the mummies were wrapped in linen and had been buried nine meters below ground level. Stone coffins and wooden sarcophagi made of wood have been the same for a long time. Some of the bodies were put in these coffins.
After it was discovered in 2019, hundreds of guests, including ambassadors, swarmed on the site almost immediately after. Furthermore, 40 of the mummies were on display during an announcement event when they were unveiled.
Linen-wrapped skulls were one grisly discovery at the site.
Antiquities minister Khaled El-Enany believes that these recently found tombs are a family cemetery in ancient Egypt. Furthermore, it was most likely for a family from an upper-middle-class background.
Ultimately, he hopes that by studying the procedures used to cremate the mummies, academics may learn more about the secrets of Ancient Egypt. Besides that, he said that the techniques used to bury the mummies in the labyrinth of tombs are different in style.
